New application of Self-developed flight control planting drone to speed up ecological restoration

   Kobrico Lake District is located in the southwestern part of Victoria, Australia. It was severely affected by wildfires in 2018, and the surface vegetation and underlying soil have been severely degraded. Due to the large number of peat bogs distributed in this area, it is difficult to reach by traditional artificial or ground equipment due to the topography of the muddy area. Large-scale aircraft or helicopter seeding cannot be applied on a large scale due to high costs. Although the previous aerial sowing methods are highly efficient and cover a wide range, they cannot control the amount and falling trajectory of seeds, which affects the effect of vegetation growth and distribution and ecological restoration.

   Lake Cobrico is the first self-developed flight control planting drone pilot area for peat swamp protection in Victoria. Small and flexible drones can overcome various ground obstacles and overturn the above-mentioned traditional "replanting and greening" ecological restoration models. In the face of a fragile ecosystem, Self-developed flight control planting drones can carry out remote sensing mapping, precise seeding and weeding in a safe, efficient, and interference-free manner, avoiding the use of tractors and other ground equipment to damage the soil vegetation structure.

Peat swamps are one of the most valuable wetland resources in terrestrial ecosystems. They can absorb and store large amounts of carbon dioxide and play an important role in mitigating climate change. However, in recent years, peatlands have released large amounts of greenhouse gases due to dry drainage and frequent fires, which account for 5% of global carbon emissions. Facing the ecological restoration problems of special terrain and landforms, Australia needs to accelerate the promotion and application of new technologies in the field of environmental protection.
